The World Is a Stage, and All Are Merely Players Essay Example

The World Is a Stage, and All Are Merely Players Paper Prologue to Theater Review on As You Like It. All the universes a phase, And all the people simply players. contacted my heart when I sat under a tree in hound wood park to see the play which leaves me presumably this is As you like it composed by the best essayist in the English language and the universes pre-prominent producer and play compose William Shakespeare. They play began at 7. 00pm at night and it was coordinated by Steven W Gwilt. They story as about a young lady named Rosalind who was the nephew of a ruler named Duke Fredrick and a kid named Orlando who was a sovereign. Rosalind and Orlando experienced passionate feelings for one another when they meet at a wrestling rivalry. Their adoration goes further when Rosalind went to woods with her cousin Cilia and a simpleton fellow named Touchstone in look for her exiled father in a camouflage of a man and named herself as Ganymede and coincidently meets Orlando while Orlando was communicating his affection for Rosalind with the idea of the woodland and Heather. With the camouflage Rosalind showed up before Orlando and said that his adoration for Rosalind isnt enough. To demonstrate his affection Orlando needed to charm Ganymede. Alongside this story there were other romantic tales too. The nitwit Touchstone went gaga for Phebe who joined them and there is the narrative of the couple Jacques and Audrey. Orlandos senior sibling Oliver additionally went gaga for Cilia. The story closes with an upbeat wedding at long last. The acting of the principle character Rosalind and Orlando was generally excellent. Their ostumes and acting was consistent with the play. The dramatic condition was little yet it was acceptable. They gave a generally excellent motion yet toward the starting When Orlando and Oliver heard the name of Rosalind and Cilia and their connection with Duke Fredrick they utilized high five which was interesting yet it probably won't correct with the play. Furthermore, when Rosalind and Cilia chose to go to the woods together they utilized something like high five which was likewise entertaining yet It probably won't be valid with the play. I think this things wasnt consistent with the play in light of the fact that the story was about quite a while back and I dont think high five was utilized as signal in those time. The response in all the circumstance was acceptable yet the Reaction a Heather wasnt that great. At the point when they entered the woods they made sound of foot behind the scene which was a splendid thought and their entering and leaving the scene as impeccable planning. This gave me that they had great cooperation. The whole introduction of the play was acceptable however the exiled father Duke the senior confronted his ack to the crowd a great deal of times. The entire set was excellent. In any case, they just indicated two set, the backwoods and the realm. What's more, they didnt indicated the play of Orlando executing the snake and tiger. They made a second floor on the set which helped the crowd see two scenes one after another yet going to second floor some of the time make crowd that they were ascending mountain where there is no mountain story in the book. The spruce up and outfits was great. Be that as it may, the spruce up of Heather and Duke senior was not that g Because Heather spruced up quite well however Dukes ress resembled a backwoods fellow which may made crowd imagine that Heather is the Duke senior and Duke senior is Heather. The tunes were pleasant particularly the last tune. However, the music that was played during the stretches was somewhat present day type which didnt make the story seemed as though that it was an account of past occasions. On my feeling the preferred the show definitely. Despite the fact that a portion of the exchanges were changed and a portion of the things made it appeared as though it wasnt valid with the play yet it made the play amusing and fascinating which made me preferred it.

Healthcare And Spirituality Nursing Assignment Paper - 825 Words

Healthcare And Spirituality Nursing Assignment Paper (Essay Sample) Content: HEALTHCARE AND SPIRITUALITYNAME OF STUDENTTUTORS NAMEINSTITUTIONS NAMEDATEEngaging in the spiritual dimension of life is an essential component of well-being and health. Integrative medicine emphasizes on bringing spirituality and healing together. The role of spirituality and religion in medicine is composed of practices such as pastoral counseling, meditation and healing prayers, evoking compassion and forgiveness, incorporating the mystery of death at the end of life care, and searching for meaning in the patients illness and family as well as those professionals working with them.A healthy environment, integration of technology and radical loving care are all key components to a healing hospital. These are core factors to be considered in a healing hospital and for its success. Instituting and integrating the three components can be very challenging since many barriers need to be overcome.Creating a physical environment for healing is a major component of a healin g hospital. This implies a quiet, serene environment that patients can sleep enabling their body cells to regenerate faster, thus accelerating the healing process. Promoting a quiet environment demands some physical changes in a hospital if they had not been put in place. These include putting silencers on cleaning machines, carpeted floors and instituting policies on overhead paging unless in cases of emergency. According to Eberst (2006), a quiet environment creates a secondary advantage keeping patients, families, health personnel and employees free from stress.Integrating technology in the hospital is another component. According to Eberst 2006, it is important that we establish methods that uphold the patients privacy and security. This preserves their dignity over the period they are hospitalized since it is a period that can be very stressful to some patients. Providing the patients with some entertainment such as music and educational presentations of their specific problems makes them forget the pain or the condition they are in, and they embrace the present life no matter how it is. A hospital with technologically advanced equipment is always at an advantage since it can offer advanced health care such as life support; which is a spiritual part of medicine, accelerated test results thus reducing the patients and familys anxiety. The last component is fostering a culture of love in health care. Among the three, this is the most important since it brings the employees, health specialists, and the patient together, embedding the confidence and peace that a patient will require as they undergo the healing process. Chapman 2003 says such environment thrives when all employees unite and commit to creating a caring, focused environment on every patient.Implementing these components comes with challenges that need to be overcome. First, there is the problem of bringing the nurses, physicians and the staff to believe in the healing hospital philosophy. Coming up with a team that is willing to support is imperative. Furthermore, there is the financial barrier that comes when intending to create a healing physical environment. Accomplishing a quiet environment will need carpeted floors, silenced washing machines and so much more. These cannot be achieved when there exist financial barriers. These form a part of the challenges that a healing hospital may face. The philosophy of healing hospitals is well embedded in the Bible. Many passages talk about peoples health and healing and the subsequent peace that comes along with it. As we see in the New Testament, (Mark 8:12), Jesus is portrayed as the great physician who concerned himself not only with the spiritual healing but also the physical healing. He sees suffering as our enemy thus he heals many. (Luke 13:16) shows that Jesus is compassionate and that he heals even on Sabbath. (Luke 9:12), Jesus commissions his disciples to preach Gods kingdom and heal the sick...

The film displays the issue of racism and illustrates how one can overcome prejudice by uniting for a common cause or goal. During the course of this movie, there were many social behaviors at work that dealt with racism and discrimination. These obstacles didn’t stop the football team from socially overcoming those difficulties. In brief, this film is about two schools in Alexandria Virginia that integrated in the early 1970s to form T.C. Williams High School. The white head coach of the Titans (Coach Bill Yoast) is replaced by an African American coach from North Carolina (Coach Herman Boone). Tensions arise when players of different races are forced together on the same football team. Many of these tensions are eased during the two-week training camp in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. When players returned to Alexandria the players found the city in turmoil due to the forced desegregation of the high school. As the season progresses the teams success caused the community to accept the changes. After the Titans perfect season, the team and the city were closer than ever. There were many scenes in the film that were meaningful to the theme of racism. One important scene is at the Gettysburg battle location. Customer Focus - Service Focus and IT Focus

Question: Discuss about the Customer Focus, Service Focus and IT Focus. Answer: Introduction For a business to prosper, customer focus, service focus, and IT focus must be put into consideration. Customer focus is the direction in which you do your things to impress the customer. The customer is always right and therefore organizations should put into consideration complains made by the customers. When delivering services you should ensure that you work as per the customers standard so that the customer can be happy with your service. For this service to be implemented smoothly there should be the use of modern technology like online communication, 24 hours service for the customers and also receiving money through modern payment like visa cards and mobile money payment (Bhatt, 2010). Customer and service focus There are 2 different types of customers this is the internal customers and the external customers. Internal customers are persons who purchase the firms products yet they are the composition of the staff while external customers are institutions, companies or individuals who purchase the companys products yet they do not hold any shares of the company (Wilson, et al, 2012). For the company to prosper, they must consider their customers as the first priority. They should understand what best suit their customers and they should understand the amount of product which will best suit their customers. When less product is produced, there will be insufficient stock for the customers meaning they will shift for the alternative while when more are produced, there will be bulk resulting in wasting. The quality of goods also matters. Producing goods of high quality will ensure there is a good customer satisfaction hence greeting a good rapport with your customers. In your business, you should ensure that the customers are satisfied (Gronroos, 2011). Customer satisfaction is more of the feeling or attitude. It is not an objective statistics. When you deliver a quality good to the customer or the service you have offered is sufficient and the customer is happy about it, then the customer will pay promptly. When the payment is sufficient, the cash flow will improve in the organization and these customers will increase in number, the customers will occasionally check in and they will purchase more. When working on customer satisfaction, you should consider both the internal and the external customers. The service you offer to your customers should be more lucrative than your competitors. When you want to determine whether your customers are happy with the quality of goods and services you offer to them, you should not just look on the product alone, you should also determine the quality by the level of services connected with the product these services include; Packaging- packaging will enable your product to attract more customers Timely and accurate delivery/shipping- when the product is being taken to the customer, you should ensure it is received as at the agreed time. This built trust and confident hence the customer will always prefer your service (Tallon, 2008). The quality of the company is determined by the customers to define in terms of overall experience with the company so nothing should be neglected. In case the company offers goods and services that do not satisfy the need of the customer, the customer will defect. When a customer defects it means the customer has stopped hiring the service of the company or the customer no longer purchase the goods from the company. Losing a customer is a big downfall of the company while retaining the customer is a big benefit of the company. When you lose a potential customer, it will mean that your competitor has gained. Therefore, when the customer back out it is a threat to the organization these can happen when there is the poor quality of product or poor after sale service. On the other hand maintaining a customer is an advantage to the organization (Chaffey White, 2010). In the service sector, employee- customer satisfaction determines whether the customer will defect or the customer will stay. These services include nursing, airplane attendant among others. A Proper relationship with the customer means that the customer will stay whereas poor coordination means that the customer will defect and this will cause the company in their profit. These services are crucial since they involve face-face interaction. The main reason for the customer focus is to gain productivity in the public sector and to achieve profit in the private sector. Something which is confirmed is the relationship between customer and retention and profit (Gulati Oldroyd, 2005). When there is a good human resource management then there is good employee retention. Employee retention can also be beefed by organizing development methods such as team empowerment, building, and job development. When an employee is satisfied with the job condition he will not aim to walk away but when the conditions are poor, the employee will walk away. Employee satisfaction also relates to external services and customer satisfaction. Customers satisfaction are being driven by two basic ways this is the development key indicators or collect data regarding the perception of quality received by the customers. The key indicators for physical products may include; aesthetics, adaptability reliability, usability and functionality while major indicators for service are: communication skills, willingness to listen to customers, appearance of the physical facilities, responsiveness to requests, billing process, the safety of the service and courteousness of the employee (Lagrosen, 2001). To meet the level of services your business needs, customer focused quality management should be an essential part of your IT. IT is linked with giving out an ever-increasing line of product and services to the business. The quality of product and services must be maintained many best practices should aim at advancing the quality of these services and products offered by the IT. They are important quality management system. Some of the best quality management systems that every best practice should follow is; (Tallon, 2008). The first principal of quality management is to be customer focus. IT is used by many customers both the external and the internal customers and this customer use different products and they have different needs so for the needs to be achieved and the customer to be satisfied, the IT must be developed to meet the needs of every one failure to do this, customers will defect and employees will leave since their interests will not be catered for. There are four areas that should be understood while developing IT for the organization. The customer current needs, future needs should meet its requirement and should strive to surpass the quality this customer needs (Bhatt, 2010). The first area you should identify all of your products and services. This can be done by creating a catalog. In IT this catalogs should be simplified to cater for every sector. The second step is to identify all the customers who use your products and services either internal or external. Some services are used by everyone so through IT you can include them in the network infrastructure The third step is to determine the customer requirement. This is a key product of quality management and customer focus. It can be achieved through IT and the best way to achieve it is by asking customers questions and applying to their questions as per their needs. Finally, after understanding the need of your customers, you have identified your products then the final step is on the delivery of this products. To give customers what they want, you need to meet the customers expectations or you perform more than what the customer is expecting. An IT department should do not less than meet the expectation of every customer. They should strive to exceed the expectation of each customer. The IT should also be flexible and should update product and services provided by the change in the need (Lagrosen, 2001). For a good IT in the organization, it has to have: Strategic vision: a good IT in a business must have strategic goals. These strategic goals should be long term, near term, and short term. Success criteria must be clearly defined and routinely reviewed. Vision translation: the strategic vision should be presented to the IT staffs and they should work hand in hand with other departments to achieve that. Strategic frame work: This should enlighten how the IT is prepared to tackle the strategies planned by the organization (Chaffey White, 2010). Conclusion Customer focus, service focus, and IT focus is an essential measure for any business to perform. For your business to be of the top class, you must ensure that your customers are happy and satisfied. When your customers are happy, they refer doing business with you and they can also refer other people to you. When this is done, you will increase the cash hence increased profit, on the other hand, IT is a basic concept in todays organizations. Organizations should employ modern technologies to ensure they a bid by customers need and also they compete favorably with their competitors (Jones, 2010). Reference list Bhatt, G. D., Emdad, A. F. Combination Of Noir Style And Existentialist Motif Essays

Combination Of Noir Style And Existentialist Motif Essays Combination Of Noir Style And Existentialist Motif: The Matrix The Matrix (1999) is an extension of the existentialist motifs of the mid 20th Century set in the 23rd, for its obvious influences from the American Noir Style. This is apparent when looking at the five points of this existentialism. First, Thomas A. Anderson (Keanu Reeves), a.k.a. Neo, is portrayed from the beginning of the film as a normal Joe who holds the potential of a world savior, yet without the narcissism. He does not have X-ray vision or the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but rather, he is a lowly computer programmer for a respectable computer company. He does not appear important to anyone else in the film at first, and it is because of his lifestyle. Mister Anderson is immersed in the world of computers. As a result, he is lonely and alienated from the world or reality. This feeling is also reflected in the high, swooping camera angle found in the film, which is characteristically Noir. But what is reality? The truth? Neo makes the conscious choice to see how deep the rabbit hole goes. One finds out later in the film that at the point of making such a choice, he was nothing or nothing more than an oversized Energizer; but upon choosing the truth he is also trying to free his mind from the prison he cannot taste or touch or see. Neo is doomed to fail, as no one has come before him to succeed in the freeing of his own mind. As a result, he is under a sentence of death; the system is set up against him; the Matrix has him he struggles with the choice between life and death, as he must let his instructor, Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne), die or sacrifice himself to save him. There is only one element holding his life in tact: Fate At first, Mister Anderson does not like the idea of fate, as he cannot stand the idea of not being able to control his own destiny. Throughout the entire film, as Mister Anderson further transpires to his alter ego Neo, he struggles to accept the reality of his destiny. But something happens that makes Mister Anderson realize the authenticity of his destiny; he learns that he is, in fact, the One who is to save the world from Artificial Intelligence. No one can change their destiny if they do not realize that their pseudo-reality is a part of them. There are also other characteristics of a Noir film in the Matrix. The chiaroscuro lighting is very apparent in many scenes. Also, it invokes a great sense of alienation with its Noir-like high angle shots. The entire film is very dark and rainy. There are also many reflections, which are found in many Noir films, such as Orson Welles Citizen Kane (1941). Kane was an obvious motivation and influence on this film, as was Alfred Hitchcocks Rope (1948), as mentioned by producer Joel Silver, editor Zach Staenberg and Effects Supervisor John Gaeta. These people had the Noir template in consideration when writing and editing this film. It is evident that Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), the head Sentient Program hunting Neo, is the hard-boiled detective, and Neo is the Fugitive from a Chain Gang that is always on the run. Moreover, there is the classic tilt shot seen in the film that clues the viewer to the films Noir-like style. This modern-day, science fiction, Kung Fu fighting Neo-Noir (no pun intended) thriller is clearly rooted in film classics from the past. Wake up, Neo The Matrix has you Thomas A. Anderson is a respectable software programmer for a respectable computer company. He pays his taxes, has a social security number, and even helps his landlady take out her garbage. Hes just a normal guy in a normal job, doing the normal thing, much like Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon. But one thing the viewer does not count on is Mister Andersons alter ego, Neo, to be one of the worlds most renowned computer hackers, guilty of virtually ever computer crime there is a law for. It is not until this e-lifestyle starts to spill over into his real life

Engineering Ethics Beyond Engineers' Ethics Essay

Engineering Ethics Beyond Engineers' Ethics - Essay Example These concepts are Act Utilitarianism, Rule Utilitarianism, Golden Rule, Rights (Human Rights), moral responsibility ; malpractice, reasonable care, and moral personality. Basart and Serra begin their article by summarizing the main tenets of conventional engineering ethics. Basart and Serra affirm that the conventional engineering Ethics is mostly focused on engineer’s ethics, in other words, engineering ethics is mainly based on giving the engineers the professional directives on the right conduct in their engineering prrofession. Basart and Serra goes on to explain that, since the practice of engineering involves a complex network of interrelationships between the individual engineers, their employers, organizations, and other groups, there is the need to have engineering ethics that would act as a guide for all the â€Å"stake-holders† in the engineering practice/profession. In the conventional engineering ethics, the engineering ethics that we studied in class, the engineer’s ethics and the engineering ethics are taken as one and the same thing. The result of this is a holistic ethics that enables the individual engineers to act responsibly as individuals, and to make good moral judgements on any ethical dilemma that may arise in their complex relationships in the engineering practice/profession. Having articulated the position of the conventional engineering ethics, Basart and Serra critiqued the traditional engineering ethics and stated that the conventional engineering ethics is not the best engineering approach in the modern interrelated world (Basart, and Serra, web). Basart and Serra argue that in the modern world, technology has alienated us from nature, thus leading to new ethical challenges that the conventional engineering ethics does not address. For this reason, Basart and Serra argue that the best approach to engineering ethics in the modern world is constant dialogues, among

Chinense arts Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Chinense arts - Essay Example The line patterns on unearthed pottery and bronze ware resemble ripples, fishing nets, teeth or frogs. The animal and human figures, succinct and vivid, are proofs to the innate sensitivity of the ancient artists and nature.† The early Chinese artists were fascinated by the beauty of Nature. They held the various agents of Nature like mountains, rivers etc. in reverence and awe. The proof for this can be found in the steep cliffs in Sichuan, Guizhou in Southwes China and Yunnan. More ancient engravings and paintings can be found in Altai, and Heihe. The paintings are related to the tough living conditions of the people in those hilly tracts. Scenes of sacrificial rites, production activities and so forth can be seen. In northern China, the themes of paintings were entirely different. They mostly relate to animal grazing, hunting, wars and dancing. Paper was invented much later and the artists used silk for their paintings. The earliest silk painting was excavated from the Mawangdui Tomb which relates to Warring States Period (476-221 BC). Buddhism came from India in the 1st century and one can see carvings on grottoes and temple buildings. The religious murals came to the fore. Chinese artists were exposed to vagaries of Nature and territorial aggrandizement of different dynasties and the unity of China as one country was put to severe test. Wars between the dynasties were the common feature during the third to sixth centuries. These developments set the Chinese artists thinking and varied themes emerged from their creative strokes. â€Å"Grotto murals, wall murals in tomb chambers, stone carvings, brick carvings and lacquer paintings flourished in a period deemed very important to the development of traditional Chinese painting The Tang Dynasty (618-907) witnessed the prosperity of figure painting, where the most outstanding painters were

The Jamestown Settlement Essay Example for Free

The Jamestown Settlement Essay I always consider the settlement of America with reverence and wonder, as the opening of a grand scene and design in providence, for the illumination of the ignorant and the emancipation of the slavish part of mankind all over the earth. -John Adams. Jamestown, Virginia was the first permanent English settlement in the New World. The Jamestown Colony is a town in Virginia. It is the oldest, and first, English colony in North America. The London Company, formed in 1606, was a group of ten men, mostly well-to-do merchants, who decided to colonize Virginia (Fishwick, 49). Francis Bacon, a member of the Company, decided the colony was to be a long-term scheme and settlers were to be given twenty years to find their feet (Fishwick, 49). Settlers were selected for their special skills, and included many farmers so the colony could become self-sufficient. The Colonial Council was a group of thirteen settlers who would be directed by a royal council of thirteen in England (Fishwick, 49). One member was selected to be the president, and he would make laws, vote taxes, mint money, and dispense justice in Virginia (Fishwick, 49). The settlers were granted â€Å"all rights and immunities†¦Ã¢â‚¬ of citizens in England, including the right to own land and trial by jury (Fishwick, 50). All taxes on trade with Virginia were used to benefit the colony. The London Company set sail from Blackwell, England, on December 20, 1606 (Fishwick, 50). They had three ships, tools, weapons, ammunition, food, grain, and 105 â€Å"hardy adventurers† (Fishwick, 50). Many settlers were classified as â€Å"gentlemen†, and there were some skilled craftsmen and farmers, and two surgeons (Fishwick, 50). The settlers came to the New World to acquire land, gold, or quick fortunes in trade. They sought a greater measure of liberty, though some were merely restless or driven by the love of adventure, but they all shared a hope for better things in Virginia (Fishwick, 50). The Council’s directions were to search for gold and other precious metals, explore the rivers for a passage to the South Sea (Northwest Passage), and to look for the Lost Colony (Fishwick, 51). The three vessels, the Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery, took the colonists to the New World. The Susan Constant was the largest at 100 tons, and was very roomy. The Godspeed was forty tons, and the Discovery was twenty tons (Fishwick, 51). They would be out at sea for four weeks before reaching the West Indies. Ship food consisted of hard biscuits, saltmeat and fish, and barley gruel (Fishwick, 51). Land was sighted on April 26, 1607. George Percy recorded â€Å"About 4:00 in the morning, we descried the land of Virginia† (Fishwick, 57). Edward Maria Winfield was elected president of the Colony. An advance party as sent out to explore the country and choose a site for settlement. The site was chosen on May 13th. It was a flat peninsula nearly three miles long and located on the north side of the James River. Though it could be defended with ease, the land was low and boggy with sandy soil and malaria mosquitos (Fishwick, 60). Jamestown was founded a year before the French founded Quebec (Appleby, 8). It was funded by a joint-stock company, whose investors saw the colonies as sources of raw materials and markets for English goods. Despite early troubles, the settlers survived with the help of local Native Americans, the Powhatan Confederacy. The colony prospered by growing tobacco. In 1619, the House of Burgesses was formed to make their own laws (Appleby, 8). More than 4,500 settlers immigrated to Virginia in 1622 (Appleby, 8). The expansion of the colony alarmed Native Americans and they attacked Jamestown in 1622. The English court blamed the Virginia Company’s policies for high death rates and revoked its charter (Appleby, 8). Virginia became a royal colony run by a governor appointed by the king. Pocahontas was born in 1596 (â€Å"Pocahontas†, 1). Her birth name was â€Å"Amonute† and â€Å"Pocahontas† was just a nickname, meaning â€Å"playful one† because of her frolicsome and curious nature. She was the daughter of the Powhatan chief, Wahunsenaca. The Powhatan chieftan had a population of about 25,000 (â€Å"Pocahontas†, 1). When the English arrived and settled in Jamestown in 1607, Pocahontas was eleven years old. In the winter of 1607, Captain John Smith of Jamestown was captured by the Powhatan. He was brought in front of the chief and two large stones were placed on the ground with Smith’s head placed on top of them to be smashed. Pocahontas quickly intercepted and put her head on top of his, stopping the execution (â€Å"Pocahontas†, 2). As a result of this, the Powhatan chief told Smith he was a part of the tribe in exchange for â€Å"two great stones and a grindstone† and the chief would treat him as his son (â€Å"Pocahontas†, 2). Chief Powhatan sent gifts of food to the starving English settlers. Pocahontas brought the gifts to Jamestown and became a symbol of peace to the English. The Jamestown National Historic Site is on the western edge of Jamestown Island, Virginia. It is located seven miles from Colonial Williamsburg and is a total of 22.5 acres (â€Å"Jamestown National Historic Site†, 1). Jamestown is important because it was the first English colony in North America. It is also the scene of the first representative legislature on this continent on July 30, 1619 (â€Å"Jamestown National Historic Site†, 1). In 1893, the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Barney donated a plot of their land to the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA). In 1934, the rest of the land was acquired by the National Park Service as a part of the Colonial National Historical Park (â€Å"Jamestown Nat. Hist. Site†, 1). The trip from Greensburg, Indiana to Jamestown, Virginia is a relatively long one. It is a total of about 624 miles. By car, the trip takes eleven hours (â€Å"Google Maps†, 1). Jamestown, Virginia was the first permanent English settlement in the New World. The Jamestown settlement is rich in our country’s history and is remembered throughout time as the beginning of a new nation.

To His Coy Mistress Essay -- essays research papers fc

Words on "To His Coy Mistress" Either you have sex with me or you die. This is a very strong statement which, when said, has to get someone's attention; and that is exactly what Andrew Marvell intends for the reader in this poem. He wants the undivided attention of this mistress so that he can scare her and rush her into making a decision the way he wants and in due time. Filled with time flavored symbolism, this carpe diem poem, "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell, exemplifies the seize the day theme. The cyclical, life symbolizing river, the water flowing by like time, is the first place Marvell places the characters. And even though they are very far apart, time still flows by for them both. As the water flows, this concept begins to hint at the shortness of time, for them to have sex, the source of new life. He then proceeds to claim that he could love her ten years before the flood, something already ancient, and up to the end of the world, using the juxtapositioning of the two views of time enhance his argument and to convince to accept his offer by telling her of his long-term commitment for her in the short-term. This flood also symbolizes life in the fresh start of the new covenant. Because time keeps going, with or without them, they must be active participants and not just the static spectator. Otherwise, the fate Marvell relates would become their reality....

Exposing The Weakness Of Confucianism - 1604 Words

Exposing the Weakness in Confucianism Confucianism, often mistaken as a religion, is a philosophical system that helped shaped society during Ancient China from 551-479 B.C. A Chinese philosopher named Confucius developed the idea in hopes of eliminating China’s problem of disorder in society. The ideology of Confucianism helped Ancient China build a foundation to establish institution and social order. Confucius intent was to create social harmony in society, and in order achieve social harmony; individuals must live by moral examples of superiority. This entailed unequal relationship in human society: the father has power over his son, the husband has power of his wife, the older brother has power over his younger brother, the eldest son has power over his mother, and of course, leaders had power of individuals. With this idea, Confucius believed that this would create equal balance between the importance of families and the importance of state and nation. Juggling between t hese the importance of families and state had people question whether or not individuals were able to maintain serving the nation and state while fulfilling their family’s obligations. In this paper, I will be researching whether or not Confucianism benefited Ancient China’s society as a whole, or if the idea of Confucianism leads to social destruction rather than social harmony with the help of two articles.
